Rezoning of East Cooper Area High Schools

• In August 2014, the Board of Trustees approved funding for a new East Cooper High School • In August 2016, the Board of Trustees approved expanding the school from a capacity of 1200 students to a 1500 student capacity facility

What has happened? District 2 Board Members: • Met with District officials to gather information • Assembled information and established a timetable to ensure a smooth transition for students to attend Beckham High • Discussed priorities and issues • Shared key information with constituents to gather information • Established goals and priorities prior to developing new attendance zone options • Developed options for zoning to present for community input • Gathered community input from the options presented for consideration • Established timetable for announcing new attendance zones for the two high schools East of the Cooper

Capacity and Enrollment • Capacity for Beckham High is based on the future needs East of the Cooper • Enrollment capacity for Beckham High, Wando High and the Center for Advanced Studies is approximately 5,500 seats • As of the 45 day count, 3,929 students were attending Wando and the Center for Advanced Studies • Enrollment has been flat over the last three years

Grade Configuration Information • Community meetings were held to determine grade configuration • Four Options were presented • Academics, College and Career Readiness, Extracurricular, Student Transition, Impact to Wando and School Culture • Beckham High will open fall of 2020 with grades 9 th and 10 th

C2 map shows neighborhoods zoned to attend Belle Hall ES, James B. Edwards ES, Mt. Pleasant Academy, residences on Sullivan’s Island and Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods zoned for Whitesides ES that are south of Venning Road. This does not include the geographic area that is east of Rifle Range Road and north of Venning Road.
