  1. Hello Parents, The details about our upcoming trip are coming together. The students have been really busy! They spent last week planning meals, shopping for ingredients, and packing group gear. This week they have been researching our destinations, cooking (and freezing) some food for the trip, and making phone calls to schedule tours and activities for the group. On Thursday we will unpack and practice setting up our new tents! We will also shop for fresh ingredients. Friday will be spent packing up the vans and truck and doing some vehicle maintenance. Saturday, April 23 7:00 AM - Arrive with small daypack with things needed for travel. We will be driving to Mammoth Cave National Park to camp for two nights. Sunday, April 24 We will be exploring the caves and trails in the park. Monday, April 25 Drive to Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace to tour. Drive to the Red River Gorge where we will camp at Natural Bridge State Park. Tuesday, April 26 – Thursday, April 28 Explore the Red. (hiking, rock climbing, boating, and more!) Friday, April 29 Drive home – arrival late (hopefully by midnight) Phones - Students are NOT allowed to bring their own phones or any other electronic device besides a watch and/or camera. Lleanna will keep parents up to date on our progress as she did on our Odyssey trip via Hubbli. Cell service could be spotty in the woods, but our contact numbers are: Saasha - 785.764.6579 Will - 952.334.5750 Clay - 913.645.8907 The Red River Adventure waiver, the Torrent Fall Climbing Adventure waiver, and the Medication and Agreement Form (later in this document) need to be filled out and returned by Thursday, April 21 . ¡ We are all excited and looking forward to the trip! If there are any follow up questions, please email Clay clay@raintreemontessori.org Have a delightful day, The Erdkinder Team

  2. SPRING TRIP GUIDELINES Use the BUDDY SYSTEM at all times. NEVER WANDER OFF BY YOURSELF . Guidelines for riding in the vehicles • You can take a reading book, your water bottle, car games, your snack, and small pillow in the car. • You will not be allowed to get things out of your overnight bag during the ride. • Use inside voices and remain facing forward in the vehicle so as not to distract the driver. • Relax, rest, visit, read, or play games. Look out the window at the countryside. • We will stop for meals as necessary. Camp Etiquette • It will take time to set up camp. Be helpful and patient. • When you get your tent set up, take the time to unpack and organize your things. • If you are an early riser, do not disturb those in your tent and do not wake up others. • Shoes must be worn at all times outside the tent. • When you prepare for the day each morning, you should bring everything you will need for the day: water bottle, poncho, extra layer, notebook, and pen.. • Your water bottle should be filled before meeting in the morning. • Remember to use quiet voices after dark. • Walk, never run, around camp. • You are not allowed in any other tent but your own. • No electronic devices are permitted on this trip beyond a watch. If such devices are used or found in a tent, then all students in that tent are subject to a trip home with Lleanna. Trail Etiquette • We will do A LOT of walking. Bring comfortable hiking boots or tennis shoes. • Pack what you need for the day in a dayback that can be carried on your back so that your hands are free. • Do not take over the entire trail. You may have to walk single file at times. • Hikers yield to cyclists and horses. Downhill hikers yield to uphill hikers. • If your shoelace needs to be tied, or you need something in your backpack, do not block the trail. Bedtime • You must turn lights off at 10 PM (or before). • Raintree Staff will come around to say good night and check that everyone is in their tent. • Leaving your tent after bed check (except to use the restroom) will be grounds for sending you home. • Telling scary stories is prohibited at anytime on the trip.

Students must be well and fever-free (without the use of fever-reducing medications) 24 hours before the trip. We have faith that all our students will conduct themselves in a mature manner, mindful of the fact that their behavior reflects on themselves, their family and their school. However, if inappropriate behavior compromises the safety or well being of others, we will follow through with the consequence described above.
