An A package can take you anywhere if you make it work for you.
How do I make the most of my A package? • Work hard and gain the highest grades possible (complete 4 minors in different course areas, including English). • Fast track through college by gaining 17 points and leaving June of Year 17 • Enrol in a VET subject • Do Work Experience (WEX) and/or Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) • Participate in an ASBA – attend school 3 days a week • Be involved in extra-curricular activities – The Arts, volunteering, community, events, sport, Outdoor Ed, leadership and external courses
Achieve highest grades possible • Attend ALL classes (or complete flex work) and submit all assessment on time • Ensure that your Year 12 Certificate will impress prospective employers • Try a range of subjects that might interest you (NB: you can do T subjects)
Fast track A Year 12 Certificate can be achieved with 17 points (3 semesters) 5 subjects each semester = 15 points Connect = .2 x 3 = 0.6 points (if ALL attended) TOTAL = 15.6 points You only need 1.4 through activities such as: • WEX and/or SWL • Activities offered by the college e.g. end of semester courses, sport, the Arts, leadership • Community involvement e.g. cadets, volunteering, caring • External courses e.g. first aid, bar course, beauty etc
Vet courses Value add by enrolling in VET courses. This will enable you to leave with additional qualifications that will take time off your CIT course. Courses on offer at Gungahlin are: • Hospitality • Theatre Production • Business (Admin) • Fashion • Furniture • Tourism • Sport and Fitness • IT • Community Service • Musical and Stage Performance
Sign into an ASBA • Combine college with 1-2 days paid work • Finish college with a Nationally Recognised Certificate or Statement of Attainment as well as a year 12 Certificate • This can reduce the time for a full-time apprenticeship
Changed your mind? Do you want to go to University? • Pathways through CIT, articulating to UC • Complete UC Connect or the ANU Associate Degree • Complete a Diploma course at UC • Use a portfolio to gain direct entry to Uni in the Creative Arts
Remember: • Attend class – 90% attendance • Complete assessment tasks – 70% assessment • Always ask for help if you need it • Participate and enjoy your college experience
Do some Work Experience • Go to the digital backpack (google digital backpack) and choose InPlace, click on the ‘Opportunities’ tab and select ‘Employer’ • Accredited students can go out on Work Experience blocks through the term when assessment isn’t due.
