Routine thinking Creative thinking (4) 1.2 Read the scenario below and answer the questions that follow: Supermarkets have a problem A recent study among the different supermarket chains in the area shows that many managing directors are facing the same problem. Customers are not happy with the idea of having to pay for the plastic carriers in which they pack their purchases. Let’s face facts, once you have purchased a few hundred Rands worth of groceries, it could be quite annoying to have to fork out another 47c per plastic carrier! Many spur-of-the-moment shoppers do not always remember to bring plastic bags or some other means of carrying their purchases. Unhappy customers tend to avoid bad experiences, and supermarket chains are worried that they might lose market shares. 1.2.1 Explain the Mental blocks to creative thinking and idea generation. 1
