Statement We believe that children should value their work and accept that presentation is important. This policy ensures a consistency of approach throughout the school and sets out our expectations as children progress through the year groups. Aims All staff and children to be aware of presentation policy Class teachers to explain routines regarding presentation at the beginning of each term. Children to become independent in their approach to presentation Teaching staff to have high expectations in terms of how work is presented Teaching staff to advise children on how to improve the presentation of their work To ensure children name all work undertaken on paper To ensure the fronts of books and folders are kept neat and tidy without graffiti To ensure all work undertaken is in pencil unless a pen licence has been awarded To allow children to explore ways of presenting their work using ICT Maths Foundation Stage Children encouraged to write their own name on work. Adult to ensure date is visible, either by hand or use of a date stamp. Children to write numerals clearly and carefully, well spaced and asked to form numerals correctly. Key Stage 1 Children asked to stick a given Learning Challenge neatly into their books. When using squared paper children are expected to write one number in each square. Key Stage 2 Children asked to write the date using numerals eg 2.9.14. Children to write title and learning challenge neatly at the beginning of each piece of work. When using squared paper margins may need to be added. If 10mm squares the format is 2 squares a margin, 6 squares a margin, 2 squares a margin If 8mm squares the format is 2 squares a margin, 11 squares a margin, 2 squares a margin. One digit to be put in each square, including fractions.
When exploring different strategies children are asked to work neatly to space out their working and make the method used clear to the reader. Plain paper is used for visual representations. English Foundation Stage Children asked to name all work using correct letter formation. Adult to ensure date is visible either by hand or use of date stamp. If using lined paper children encouraged to write on the line. Key Stage 1 By the end of Key stage 1 children asked to write the date in full, eg Tuesday 4 th July 2015. The learning challenge to be stuck neatly into the book. Writing to be cursive and on lines provided. Key Stage 2 Children asked to use cursive script and write the date in full, eg Tuesday 4 th July 2013 and underline at the top of the page. The learning challenge to be written neatly at the top of the page and underlined. A line should be left between the Learning Challenge and the work underneath. When publishing, all writing should be produced using the cursive script. Science All children to present work using the same guidelines as for English. Diagrams to be drawn in pencil, with clear labelling. General Children to write using a sharp pencil until granted a pen licence or in Upper Key Stage 2. Pens should be school approved eg cartridge, berol handwriting. Children are not permitted to use felt pen/gel pen/biro etc in exercise books. (unless permission given for certain pieces of work) Children are not permitted to graffiti on the front cover of exercise books. Consideration in applying this policy is given to children with Special Educational Needs. Other ways of presenting work will be explored eg use of ipads/computers Concluding Statement Clear presentation is a priority, highly valued and expected for all pieces of work.
