  2. Graduation Readiness Idaho 08.02.03 Sec 105 (HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS) “A student must meet all of the requirements identified in this section before the student will be eligible to graduate from an Idaho high school. The local school district or LEA may establish graduation requirements beyond the state minimum.” Idaho 08.02.03 Sec 109(07) (DIPLOMAS AND GRADUATION) “School districts shall use a regular diploma for students who are eligible for special education at the completion of their secondary program. The transcript serves as a record of individual accomplishments, achievements, and courses completed. A modified or differentiated diploma or certificate may not be used for students who are eligible for special education unless the same diploma or certificate is granted to students without disabilities. If a student is not granted a regular high school diploma or if a regular high school diploma is granted for completing requirements that are not comparable to regular graduation requirements, a student who is eligible for special education is entitled to receive a free appropriate public education through the semester in which the student turns twenty-one (21) years of age or until the student completes requirements that are comparable to regular graduation requirements, whichever comes first.”

  3. Graduation Readiness Keep in mind…  Obligation to provide FAPE and special education services ends when a student meets all Idaho regular graduation requirements and is awarded diploma (IDEA SEC 300.102)  While students may complete their high school program and participate in “social graduation” and other activities with their same age peers; if they are continuing to receive district services of any kind a diploma should NOT be awarded, instead retained, until requirements are met or until they fully exit all district/charter services  Idaho has only one diploma, special education students should not be awarded an alternate diploma, or any certificate of completion or attendance that differs from those used or awarded to general education peers  Documentation on a special education students transcript must NOT identify courses as “special education” or designate the student as having a disability  Written Notice must be provided before discontinuation of services due to graduation  A student Summary of Performance is required upon graduation and/or student “ageing out” of special education services

  4. Transition Services MUST continue… PLEASE!  Continue your transition partnerships with other Idaho agencies and organizations  Continue gaining consent to keep in contact with and connecting students to the valuable services these partners can provide  Do not let required transition services and activities fall through the cracks, students cannot afford to lose ground in preparing for their future

  5. Transition Services MUST continue…  Visit IdahoTC.com/COVID19 and review SESTA padlet resources for tools to continue transition assessment and activities

  6. Transition Services MUST continue…  Visit VR.Idaho.gov and speak with VR counselors in order to connect your students to high quality pre- employment transition services such as paid work and college visits this summer

  7. Keeping Track of Students Indicator 14: Post-School Outcomes Survey PLEASE!  INFORM exiting students and their families that they will be contacted for survey next summer  KEEP AN EYE OUT for communication in the coming weeks related to surveying last years students  We will be surveying 2019 graduates and exiters starting in May through early July  The SDE requests district/charter participation in contacting and surveying their former students  Resources, access to online survey and contact lists will all be provided  Hear first hand the transition experience of your former students
