Adjudication for Exams • The adjudication process provides equity and accessibility to students with special needs who qualify for adaptations on provincial exams. • Adaptations to exam conditions are allowed only when the specific adaptations relate directly to the individual student’s identified special needs and conform to the criteria established by the Ministry: 1. The student’s special needs must have been identified according to the criteria. 2. The specific adaptations must be appropriate for the student’s documented special needs. 3. The adaptations must be consistent with classroom assessment practices. • See Harmony Lloyd or Kim McKeown (Student Services) for more information

  9. Post Secondary Application Process • Do the research – What program? Where will I study? Visits to campuses might help! • Apply online – Apply BC, Apply Alberta, OUAC, or directly to each institution • Application deadlines - best to apply early if you want to be considered for entrance scholarships (as early as December 1 st for some institutions) • Research accommodation options • Check student account – most information is requested through the student portal • Send in unofficial transcripts if required! Failure to do so might jeopardize application. • Complete PSI form to ensure official transcript is sent to institution • Accept offer (hopefully) – competitive programs will take longer to give decisions • Choose courses

Scholarships: Local • Many local scholarships available • Application package will be distributed to students in March • Deadline for return of package to FSS is usually mid-April • Some scholarships require separate applications. These scholarships might also have different deadlines. Check applications carefully to ensure you meet requirements and deadlines

Scholarships – Tips for Success • Qualities donors are looking for: Enthusiasm, community service, responsibility, good work ethic, resilience, perseverance, determination, and initiative. • Do your research early in the school year • Make a note of the deadlines of the scholarships you intend to apply for • Ensure you have a Social Insurance Number • Prepare a letter of application • Approach potential referees and obtain reference letters

  18. Important Dates • September – December: Grade 12 students begin application process for post secondary programs • November – January: Deadlines for housing, early admission, and scholarships vary between institutions. Check PSI websites for dates to ensure you don’t miss an important deadline! • December – March: Many PSI’s require students to submit transcripts. Contact the school office or the counsellors if you require a copy of your transcript. This is a good time to apply for national scholarships. • February: Provincial exam results appear on transcripts. • March: Complete PSI choice form to enable to Ministry of Education to release the official transcript • April: local scholarship package must be returned to school office or counsellors • April - June: Complete course selection for your program as soon as it opens • June: Graduation ceremony!
