• High dose of starch • MPG Solutions so far… • Fats • Monensin
• High dose compromises ruminal health • Efficiency of used starch on intestinal level decreases • Might compromise intestinal health ( tight junctions and erosions) High-grain feeding alters caecal bacterial microbiota composition Starch.. and fermentation and results in caecal mucosal injury in goats Junhua Liu, Tingting Xu, Weiyun Zhu and Shengyong Mao* College of Animal Science and Technology, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing 210095, People’s Republic of China
• Neurotoxic at high doses (>500g) • Influence on rumen fermentation (question MPG remains if this is wished) • Low effect on reproduction parameters
• Mobilization of endogenous adipose tissue and its demand on hepatic gluconeogenesis may limit the cow from using additional fatty acids supplied in the diet. • Leptin, an adipose tissue hormone, discovered in 1995, acts to inhibit caloric Fats… intake and increase metabolic rate of animals with increased fat stores. Leptin increases the animal's sensitivity to the gastric hormone cholecystokinin thereby reducing reticulo-rumen digesta passage and enhancing the negative impact of dietary fiber on intake due to greater reticulo-ruminal fill and distension.
• Should we use this, taking consumer Monesin… awareness in consideration.. • Strong anti-protozoic effects
Rumen Protected Glucose
Glucose production
Immune responses • Glucose is vital for proper metabolic function and immunity because it is the main metabolic fuel for many of the immune cells. Low concentrations of glucose have been linked to a less effective pathogen- killing oxidative burst from polymorphonuclear neutrophils and are often seen at the same time as decreases in GSH concentrations , both of which impair host defenses. • The stability of serum glucose concentrations in the dry period, with closely controlled nutrition, is then of particular interest preventing reductions in maternal serum glucose due to the glucose needs of the fetus.
Glucose in milk prodcution
reproduction • Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) plays a pivotal role in cattle fertility, acting as a monitoring signal that allows reproductive events to occur when nutritional conditions for successful reproduction are reached. However, endocrine IGF-I is not a predictor of reproductive events, but rather an indirect estimator of the suitability of the animal to achieve the reproductive event in question.
Enzyme production
Heat stress
Take home messages • Rumen Protected glucose is a better alternative against Energy deficiency in early lactation • Stimulates enzyme production • Stimulates reproduction • Effective during heat stress
