Glasgow 2014 Games News Service Infostrada’s Games News Service (GNS) is inviting applications of interest from Communications, Journalism and Media students and alumni to become involved with our team at 2014 Commonwealth Games. Successful applicants will be offered the role of volunteer Flash Quote Reporter for the Games next year. Led by a project team of experienced media professionals, students will be mentored and supported throughout training and the Games.

What is the Games News Service (GNS)? ▸ 153 staff from across the globe, with experience from a wide-array of international events ▸ Produces Games news content including news articles, event previews and reviews, flash quotes and press conference highlights, as well as other content like statistics and bio information ▸ Consists of Editor-in-Chief, Chief Sub-Editors and Sub Editors (Central Editorial Team) with the venue teams comprising a Chief of Staff, a Sports Information Specialist, Reporters and volunteer Flash Quote Reporters

GNS Volunteer Roles ▸ 76 volunteers will be chosen by the GNS as flash quote reporters (FQRs) ▸ FQRs will be at event venues to interview athletes in the ‘mixed zone’ and will attend press conferences to gather quotes ▸ FQRs will work with paid GNS staff at venues and assist in creating news pieces, daily preview and reviews, media comms and ‘quotes of the day’ ▸ Shifts will be approximately 5-9 hours long, and volunteers will get (on average) 7-8 shifts ▸ GNS FQRs will have the same working conditions as all other Games volunteers

What we are looking for in GNS volunteers ▸ Communications, Journalism and Media students or alumni (Sports Studies students with the appropriate skills will also be considered) ▸ Ideal candidates will: ▸ Have high level communication skills ▸ Possess a journalistic mindset ▸ Be self-motivated ▸ Understand the importance of working within a team ▸ Volunteers must also be: ▸ Eligible to work in the UK ▸ Able to attend pre-event training sessions ▸ Flexible regarding their role and venue where they will be based
