Student Finance England Funding to study the 5 year Medicine (Mb Chb) Programme • Years 1-4 eligible to apply to SFE, not eligible for SFE Tuition Fee Loan – liable to pay tuition fees yourself in years 1-4 • Amount of SFE Maintenance Loan depends on household income (HHI) • SFE will assess on parents HHI if aged under 25 SFE will assess as independent if aged over 25 on 1 st September • • Maximum SFE Maintenance Loan in 19/20 = £8994 (if HHI under £25,000)
NHS Grants Unit Funding to study the 5 year Medicine (Mb Chb) Programme • NHS will pay full Tuition Fee Grant • NHS Bursary for living costs does not need to be repaid • NHS will assess on parents HHI regardless of student age • Maximum NHS Bursary in 19/20 = £2643 + possible Extra Weeks’ Loan (£84pw) • All students are eligible for £1000 non means-tested Grant
Student Finance Wales Funding to study the 5 year Medicine (Mb Chb) Programme • Years 1-4 only eligible to apply to SFW, not eligible for SFW Tuition Fee Loan – liable to pay tuition fees yourself in years 1-4 • Amount of Maintenance Loan depends on household income (HHI) • Will be assessed on parents HHI if aged under 25. Will be assessed as independent if over 25 on 1 st September • • Maximum SFW Maintenance Loan in 19/20 = £8225 + £1000 NMT Grant • Maximum NHS Bursary in 19/20 = £2643 + possible Extra Weeks’ Loan (£84pw) • Eligible for reduced rate SFE Maintenance Loan of £4110 in year 5 NHS funded year

Financial Assistance Fund (FAF) • Student Funding Office administers FAF • FAF is to help students in financial difficulty – can only assess for living costs help NOT tuition fees • FAF looks at student income and expenditure, not the parents’ • Any awards made are in the form of a non repayable grant
