History Established in 1946 by U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright and the U.S. Government Ethos of ‘swords into ploughshares’ – surplus WWII materials sold to fund two-way academic exchanges to the U.S. Grown to become the largest education scholarship program in the world, operating between the U.S. and 160 countries. To date, over 360,000 Fulbright Scholars worldwide Over 5,000 alumni of the Australian-American Fulbright program since establishment in 1949 7
