Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Commodores Address – Looking Back • Membership at record levels - 374 • Lots of activity – 95 blocks of courses run • Club Coach business model proved to be sustainable for a second coach • 2 new XL adult boats delivered • Strong junior section – Craiglockhart Primary sessions, Development Squads and Sprint Squads now up and running • 7 FCC members paddling for GB in Sprint, Polo and WWR and K1 200m Junior European and World Sprint Champion • Grantully Slalom, Great Edinburgh Paddle Race • Significant back office improvement to membership systems • Reasonable progress on boat house re-build • FCC Voted as 2017 ‘ Club of The Year ’ by Club Sport Edinburgh 4

Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Commodores Address – Looking Forward • Full calendar of activities for seniors planned, many star award courses • All year round calendar of activities for juniors plus continuation of the FCC Junior Development Squad and FCC Sprint Squad • Continuing our partnership with Craiglockhart Primary • Review our legal status and consideration of becoming a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation • Continue work on building a new changing room and toilet block at the front of the boathouse as well as new storage on the land behind Nola’s Barge • Following EGM in March and the Strategy Day we have refocused activity – more later 5

Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Commodores Address – Recognition • Volunteering is what sustains the club so here’s a vote of thanks to all the people who have given up their time to support the club in 2017. • Special mentions to … • Kelso without whom Grandtully would be impossible to run – Andrew takes this on in 2018 • Committee members for their work in 2017 and especially those standing down this year – thank you Katerina & Laura • Volunteers who have contributed a lot in 2017 such as Mike Hook, Cameron Playfair, Tomas Duarte, Poppy Croal, John Raven, Gillian Denvir & Dan Rhodes, Catherine Jones, Phil Young, Ben Gallcher, Cassie and Jo. • There are many, many more volunteers who continue to give there time and effort and I’d like to thank them all for their time and goodwill 6

Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Sprint Report • 1 World Championship Gold, plus A-Final for Rachel Kneen • 1 European Championship Gold • 17 FCC competitors at Scottish Championships • 9 Gold, 9 Silver & 10 Bronze at Scottish Championships • 1 Silver Medal at September Nottingham Regatta, U14 K4 500m for Aida (after 3 months training) • GB Vests for Ieuan James, Ben Gallacher, Lydia Dowling- Clarke & Rachel Kneen • 6 FCC athletes in SCA Squads (Alexander, Ben, Maks, Rachel, Elliot, Rory) Lydia and Ieuan now full time at Nottingham • Junior section training hard all year round and having fun too 11

Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh 2017 Slalom Report • 13 Paddlers competing at Slalom last year • We had 10 promotions across 4 divisions and 4 classes (K1W, K1M, C1W, C1M) • Paddlers developed and improved over the sessions. • We have attended competition including 2 in England • We have purchase a new C1 Boat • 4 Boats in the Scottish Championships • J16 C1M – Runner Up J16 C1W – 3 rd • J15 Scottish Schools Champion (C1W) • All (certainly appeared to) have FUN

Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Slalom in 2017 • Three Groups • ‘Beginners’ • ‘Improvers’ • ‘Performance’ – Coach Piotr Szczepanski • Target – 1 Prem boats, 5 Div 1 Boats, 3 div 2 boats, multiple Div 3 boats • Focus for top group moves to performance but aim to continue to have FUN • Limited availability in ‘Beginners’ – Contact Andrew for details. (Age 8+)

Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Access Report • £1,700 Grant secured for Access equipment • Para performance paddler now involved in the club • Introduced an new regular slot as a drop-in sessions with a regular turn out • Forth CC provided taster sessions for the RNIB, Teens first and Edinburgh City Council • A range of support being provided by the access team on either a 1:1 or group basis • Huge thank you to Cameron Playfair who has put a astronomical amount of volunteering hours as a cadet this year • Access support has increase with a massive thank you to Michael Hook, Cassie Abousamak and Cameron 17

Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Child Protection • Growing importance 200 children and >1500 coached hours being delivered to children each year • FCC takes child protection seriously and completed disclosure process for existing coaches and coach helpers • All new coaches/coach helpers are undergoing disclosure process when getting involved • We make sure that our policies are updated and put into place. • Parents please support this by making children aware of their rights for a safe environment. 18

Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Coaching This year we concentrated on consolidating the skills of our existing coaches, and bringing in new, experienced coaches with the aim of creating more provision for improver paddlers.
