Raw material changes challenge paint formulation RAW MATERIAL CHANGES HAVE A BIG IMPACT MAIN COMPONENTS OF PAINT FOR PAINT ASPECTS ON HISTORIC VEHICLES Raw material production stopped / cancelled due to legal requirements (e.g. REACH) or econonic decisions. All components of paint concerned. - Actually: Chromate containing pigments banned - Many solvents banned / limited: Xylene, Toluene, Benzol - VOC legislation limits solvent amount / mostly excempt solution for historic vehicles - Discontinuation of pigments have a huge impact on mixing formulas Shelflife of paint is limited. Any new paint means a combination of old substance with “freshly” produced material. Color matching can be limited due availability of effect pigments/metallics and/or metamerism. A full paint system (Primer, Putty, Fillers, Topcoat etc.) with old technology is possible and extensive but follows the same logic as mentioned above.
