FACE overview ● Restructured and rebranded Parent-Teacher Resource Center to be outward-facing and better serve parents of a diverse community of learners ● Identified gaps: Capacity to serve more families, make work more meaningful, show deeper connections, translate to reach more, and provide training for staff ● Create opportunities: Develop strategic engagement plan, provide opportunities for school-level expansion 3
2017-18: Collaboration and support ● Partnered with school and county government departments, as well as community partners, to offer training and programs to help parents become more knowledgeable about resources available ○ CCPS instructional teams (special education, ESL, etc.) and student support services teams ○ County support services teams, public libraries, etc. ○ Faith leaders, Foundation, Mega Mentors, NAACP, YMCA, etc. 4
2017-18: Programming ● Hosted community engagement events designed to provide parents with knowledge and understanding of issues confronting students and resources to help provide appropriate solutions ○ Two screenings of Screenagers -- 550 in attendance ○ Transition into the School Year -- 300 in attendance ○ Spring into Wellness -- 150 participants ○ Kindergarten Readiness -- 600 in attendance 5
2017-18: Programming ● Co-hosted or supported community engagement events designed to provide parents with knowledge and understanding of issues confronting students and resources to help provide appropriate solutions ○ Special Education Transition Fair ○ I’m Determined Program ○ Glimpse into Gifted ○ ESL Symposium 6
2017-18: Technology ● Developed Engage Chesterfield electronic communication plan to provide parents with anytime access to information and resources ○ 42 Engage Chesterfield videos ○ 12 FACE the Week newsletters to school leadership ○ Initiated development of Accesso CCPS video modules for Spanish-speaking families ○ Podcasts for community members wishing to gain a deeper understanding of CCPS programs 7
2017-18: Professional development ● Offered teachers, support staff and administrators opportunities to enhance their working knowledge of family engagement strategies ○ Offered Welcome-ability sessions to more than a dozen schools; designed to increase the accessibility for all families ○ Participated in the LEAD program, offering development opportunities for several of the LEAD groups ○ Led 8-week long book study for staff members from 9 schools 8
2017-18: Partnership development ● Met with school leadership teams to discuss development of meaningful partnerships ○ Met with school leadership teams to create site-based FACE strategies; used asset mapping and enhanced professional development in order to link site-based FACE plan to SIIPs ○ Created landing page ideas for CCPS website and designed package of information to give to potential partners ○ Proactively approached new partners and strategically leveraged new/existing partners to maximize resources 9
2017-18: Community outreach ● Worked collaboratively with external partners to identify and promote community resources ○ Capital Region Collaborative to launch RVA Basics; formed a Chesterfield-centric working group to increase regional impact ○ Co-chaired the Positive Parenting Coalition; mission is to educate, support and empower families to reach full potential ○ Chesterfield County Public Library to promote events ○ Co-hosted awareness campaigns with Chesterfield Mental Health and Prevention Services to support families 10
