Challenges for Research Group Dichotomy of the Knowledge Value-Add Client Acquisition/Transfer • More! More! More! • Continued • Educating selves More people pressure to define on new subjects needing more overall value to as we go information that is the organization • Remaining search more complicated • Increasing focus experts to find on compilation regardless of and analysis of source • Less! Less! Less! results • Reducing Less time, less • Supporting high information overkill money, less intensity research to actionable patience with high volume deliverables of requests results in bandwidth and sustainability problems 10/12/2009 6
Hard to Hear Statements “It takes too “The Library long” is a roadblock” “They don’t know my “The Library is a space” gatekeeper” How you react to the above statements determines your success or failure. 10/12/2009 7

Library as Empowering Agent Assess Most feasible Bandwidth to home for support landscape product Point-of- Strategic Educate need/Group elements training Continued Continued Partner communication support 10/12/2009 11
Conclusions o It’s important to realize that we (libraries) are sometimes roadblocks to the information. It’s equally important to react to that in a positive way o All steps in the process require partnerships to be successful o “Telling” clients what you do is not enough, you need to “show” them o Ultimately, the Library will “let go” of the product o If done well, the Library is no longer viewed as the roadblock, but as the trusted expert 10/12/2009 12
