Epoch. Past & Present Cassie Hines, Louise Rooney, Sanduni Attygalle
Epoch. Definition “a particular period of time marked by distinctive features, events,” Our product images are categorised into different periods of time therefore giving us the name, Epoch . Its a quirky take on the timeless pieces we are featuring in our products which will include 1800 fashion pieces, film posters ranging from the last 90 years and jewellery showcasing the current fashion trends. These pieces all together reflect the past and the present.
Epoch. Target Audience Our products are quite different from each other but still revolve around women in society who have an eye for trendy, sophisticated pieces to express their personality. This target audience is broken up into our three items we will be selling in our stall. Colouring Book - These products are advertised to women who are balancing both study and work and want a bit of time in their day to relax and have some time to themselves. What better way to do this from than a colouring book. Bracelets- Women primarily aged from 18-28, because of the location of the stall at the university. The idea behind the bracelet is to self reflect on yourself visually in a mosaic style pattern. This product using mirror lets a customer become self aware of themselves through the jagged reflections looking at themselves through multiple faces. Snap/memory Cards - These products are advertised at women aged 25 who have children and are attending the university. The products will not only become learning equipment for the kids to visually see the difference between fashion in the past and now but for adults to enjoy the cards visually due to them being hand painted and unusual.
Epoch. Brand Description Our brand is focused around being an umbrella store that showcases all our products under seperate brands. It ties the products together while seperate branding differentiates us from each other. These brands will be DuniDesigns, CC’s (Cassie’s Colour), LHR Bracelets (Louise Hartley Rooney Bracelets).
Epoch. Colour scheme and Design The colour scheme we will have our stall focused around turquoise, white and black. Turquoise: Chosen because of it being a balancing colour between the white and black and its a colour used in Spring fashion that is currently a popular trend. White: Chosen because the colour is reflective and will make all our products stand out considering the products will be showcased at a night stall. Black (negative space): Black will be used to contrast against our other colours and be the specific colour we use for titles, subheadings if needed and important information that we want seen clearly against the white. In the interior of our stall we will be creating a textured turquoise print to add a special feature in our stall. This will help to brighten up the table a bit more but still make sure that it will be contained making our products be the items that stands out most. Together these colours focus around the current trends in the season and make sure that our goal of making our products stand out is met.
Our stall will be focused around a rectangular shaped box that will have a ledge sitting out from the front, compartments to showcase and advertise the products and having a bench for a hands on sale approach. Compartments: The reason behind these compartments are to advertise the product itself outside of the packaging and to display them in a user friendly fashion. e.g colouring books will be open with pencils fanned across it with other equipment. This is to help showcase the Epoch. Layout products and get customers excited to what they could possibly do with the product. Bench for hands on sale: The bench will be used to display the products in quantity and give consumers a hands on approach to the product before they make their decision to purchase it. It gives us, the sellers a space of ownership and authority over our products and stall so that we can also speak to the buyers when they are browsing. Our products from left to right order will be display colouring books, jewellery as the centre piece and snap/ memory cards to the right. The reason behind putting the jewellery as the centre piece will be to attract more attention to it being such a small object compared to all our other products. The jewellery is also very different due to it not being activity based like the other two products, therefore they frame it evenly. Front ledge: The front ledge will be solely used to showcase the name of our umbrella company, Epoch. We want this out the front of the stand because this is what we want people to view first. A front window will also be given under the ledge to showcase small pocket watches that will help to create curiosity and give our company name a meaning.
Duni Design. Individual product layout The packaging will be focused around using boxes made out of cardboard, a net based diagram will be used to help create these boxes. Using the cardboard will be both cost effective and sustainable. The boxes will be hand painted displaying the products name and a short description of what the product is. To add a bit more texture to the product a piece of lace will either be woven through the box or be used as part of tying the box to close the product. This will help to connect the packaging to the product visually and spark interest in a viewers eye. Equipment I will need 30-40 cards (this is 15-20 designs) per pack - thick card for both the cards and box - watercolour paints + brushes - printer - ribbon or lace specific to the 1800 period -
CC Design. Individual product layout I will be creating a colouring-in book with a film poster theme. There will be 2 posters from each decade meaning the book will have 10 pages, including a front and back page. The front cover will be made out of a hard cardboard. I won’t change the colour of the cardboard, instead I will screenprint the name of the book and my logo straight onto it. Using it’s natual colour ensures I don’t use spray paint or other materials adding to the products carbon footprint and overall cost. Books don’t need excessive packaging, the cover is already a form of protection. What makes my colouring book especially unique is the binding. I will be using a buckle to hold everything together that can also be untied. This is so the pages of the book can be taken out for the user to frame or stick on a wall. Using a buckle instead of elastic ensures that the user can add colouring pages to the book and won’t be restricted by how much a piece of elastic can withstand. I will be making 7 books so I will need: - 70 pieces of A3 paper for printing. - 7 pieces of cardboard - 7 buckles - 7 lengths of ribbon/fabric - 1 Megalo screen printing session - 1 printer
LHR Design. Individual product layout The bracelet I am creating will be essentially be a suede braid and layers with a small hanging mosaic. The point of difference in my product is the inspiration behind it. The rich history of NMA inspired me to make something that is reflective, as history is essentially a reflection on the past. I felt that mirrors are a literal form of reflection. Whilst looking into this idea I found that mirrors are also very personal, as is jewellery. Therefore, I felt personal reflection was key in my design. I will be aiming to make approximately 15 bracelets but this will depend on the time it takes to make one. Materials and Equipment List: Flat Suede cord –brown MDF Mirror shards Glue Grout –white Resin Ring Small Trowel Tweezers Gloves Resin mould The photo of the mosaic is a larger scale mirror I have previously made. My intention is to create mosaics that are very tiny versions of this.
