Anonymity vs. Privacy On-line anonymity : identity is not known Pros and cons of anonymous access? Most people really want privacy : private information is not associated with identity. Internet and Privacy Basically, there is no privacy (or anonymity). Posting on a public website is like writing on a public wall. At the very least, IP address usually is recorded. More information, if logged in. Worse, the 'Net never forgets. Once the bits go out, someone will have made a copy. You can never find and delete all copies.
