Anatomy .33sec./2 feet of a Fall .67 sec./7 feet It takes most people about 1/3 1 sec./16 feet of a second to become aware. It takes another 1/3 of a second for the body to react. A body can fall up to 7 feet in 2/3 of a second. 10 ft Fall creates 18,000 lbs of force. 2 sec./64 feet
We don’t need Fall Protection It will only take a second to complete the task. I left my gear in the truck. I’ve done “this” a thousand times. We are not up “that” high.
Fall Protection Plans All work sites should develop a written fall protection plan which includes: Identification of the fall hazards in each area Detailing the fall protection system(s), and/or equipment to be used in each area Implementing the procedures to assemble, maintain, inspect, use and disassemble the fall protection system(s) Organizing procedures for rescue of a worker who has fallen and is suspended by personal fall arrest system or safety net, but is unable to effect self rescue.
ANSI Z359.2 Inspections Inspections Daily inspections of fall protection equipment and anchorages by the authorized person, or user of the equipment, as well as yearly inspection by a qualified person, competent person or competent rescuer are required Items to verify include: Presence and legibility of markings and tags Presence of all integral components of the equipment Absence of defects and damage
