Surrey University Evaluation • Found eat out eat well influences food choice to improve incidence of obesity in Surrey • Primary business motivation – perceived commercial benefit • Businesses like: – that the award is free – the promotional materials provided – the positive impact on image and reputation – healthier menu options do not need to cost more • Consumers like: – increased choice – increased trust in businesses with the award – potential to contribute to a healthier lifestyle
Surrey University Evaluation • Perceived strengths: – practicality and flexibility of the scheme – no charge – guidance and support given by assessors – ‘health by stealth’ • Challenges: – varying levels of interest in award – lack of consumer awareness – perceived incompatibility of award with commercial targets

Roll out • Inclusion of diabetes element to eat out eat well • Transition of Heartbeat to eat out eat well • Publicity and marketing • Promotion of the scheme throughout the District • Pilot project - campaign to target uptake in Raunds – no current takeaway or restaurant with Heartbeat – 36 caterers (including 5 restaurants, 8 takeaways, 7 mobile caterers, 3 pubs with food, 4 residential homes) How can you help?
