Getting Ready for NJSLA The NJSLA assessments are aligned with curriculum that your child has participated in all year, so no special preparation for testing is necessary. During the testing period just encourage your child to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and be on time. Annually, we have a test site visitation day which includes strategies to manage their stress and perform effectively.
What Can Parents Do? ★ Encourage students to practice typing. ★ Read - anything. ★ Utilize computer-based learning programs such as i-Ready. ★ Encourage students to compare and contrast, develop theories, and think about the big ideas when reading. ★ Practice math facts. ★ Keep a positive attitude about taking tests. Remind students that assessment is one part of their educational experience. ★ With Math, suggest performing opposite operations. For example if your problem involves multiplication check your work by dividing in reverse.
