Goals for the Dual Language Program Provide the educational environment and instruction that will allow all students to become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural Develop fluency in communication and literacy in both English and Spanish Increase academic achievement in all areas 2
Dual Language Redesign Evaluate and identify areas of potential program improvement Assemble district and campus stakeholders to engage in year long in-depth study of best practices in language acquisition and dual language models Develop action plans to strengthen and improve the design and implementation of the Dual Language Program 3
Moving from 50:50 to 90:10 50:50 Model 90:10 Model Students are separated by language for literacy in All students receive literacy in English and kinder and first grade Spanish Language minutes are determined by content Language minutes are determined by percentage Monolingual perspective Multilingual perspective The two languages are separated Spanish, English and the Bridge Allows students to use all of the languages in their linguistic repertoire to develop literacy 4
