1 Introduction • What is eCoMove? Wh t i C M ? – eCoMove it’s a Project within the Seventh Framework Programme that is creating an integrated solution for Programme that is creating an integrated solution for road transport energy efficiency by developing systems and tools to help drivers sustainably eliminate unnecessary fuel consumption (and thus CO2 emissions), and to help road operators manage traffic in the most energy-efficient way traffic in the most energy efficient way. • RACC contribution: – RACC provides the end users’ view on the system RACC provides the end users view on the system requirements by performing surveys and thoroughly analysing its results. 2 Driver Behaviour and Motivation Study • Motivation and Background: – Goal of the study: to evaluate the acceptance of eCoMove driver assistant systems on a European level. – Three comparable features: Th bl f t • Positive environmental impact by saving fuel • System usefulness • System usefulness • Willingness to pay Guillem Bernatallada Ferrer RACC Foundation 4
2 Driver Behaviour and Motivation Study • Method : – Online survey (conducted by RACC and DLR) in cooperation with 15 European motoring associations (members of EuroTest) with 15 European motoring associations (members of EuroTest). – The survey presented potential eCoMove applications using illustrations. – Each application (scenario) was rated according to several perceptual items between (1) – strongly agree – and (5) – strongly disagree: strongly disagree: • Acceptance of use • Usefulness • Environmental impact • Willingness to pay Guillem Bernatallada Ferrer RACC Foundation 5

3 ecoHMI Preliminary Study • Motivation and Background: – Goals of the study: • To identify the needs and expectations of end users as regards the ecoHMI • To assess the acceptability of early designs • To assess the acceptability of early designs – Focus: • Preferred notification channels Preferred notification channels • Acceptability of use of eCoMove applications Guillem Bernatallada Ferrer RACC Foundation 10
3 ecoHMI Preliminary Study • Method: – Face to face interviews (Spain and Germany) – Scheme: • Demographic characteristics • Preferences as regards sensory channels and notification locations • Acceptance of use Acceptance of use Guillem Bernatallada Ferrer RACC Foundation 11

3 ecoHMI Preliminary Study • Results: Notification – Two out of three users consider acceptable to use more than one modality simultaneously one modality simultaneously. – Unique modality: • Preferred by users with a relative interest in the system y y • Recommendations with certain continuity (e.g. speed recommendation on a highway) – Multiple modalities: – Multiple modalities: • Preferred by users with high level of awareness • Recommendations that requires immediacy (e.g. green wave) – Vibration modality could require more information / another accompanying modality. 4 Discussion • High Hi h acceptance t of f eCoMove C M applications li ti with ith reservations due to the time factor, mainly for daily commutes commutes. • Regional differences on willingness to pay. • The visual modality is the best rated for eco-information • The visual modality is the best rated for eco-information, preferably located in the instrument cluster. • Major interest in post-trip detailed reports of driving Major interest in post trip detailed reports of driving performance (quantitative data) and preferably available outside the car (e.g. via PC or Smartphone).
