Motivation In IPv6 access network, we may have multi-level DHCP deployment, e.g. terminal – CPE / CPE – aggregation device. CPE in user network will work as:  A DHCPv6 client for aggregation device (e.g. prefix delegation)  A DHCPv6 server for home terminals (e.g. DNS configuration) We need a method to automatically configure the DNS domain suffix, e.g. for CPEs. terminal CPE ISP core Aggregation IP prefix delegation terminal CP network Using device E CPE terminal User network ISP network 3

DNS domain suffix option DNS domain suffix option provides a method to transfer domain suffix from DHCPv6 server to DHCPv6 client. Operation & Usage Operation  DHCPv6 client sends a SOLICIT /REQUEST /INFORMATION REQUEST message to DHCPv6 server  DHCPv6 server sends REPLY message with DNS domain suffix option to DHCPv6 client. Usage  In stateful DHCPv6, the option will be placed in the options field of IA_PD option in an outgoing DHCPv6 message. 5
