  1. Divisions Of Weekly Time Divisions of time in our lives have thus been sketched by Dr. C. C. Albertson: “It might be wise for us to take a little inventory of our resources as to time and review our habits of using it. There are 168 hours in each week. Fifty-six of these we spend in sleep. Of the remaining 112 hours, we devote 48 to labor. This leaves sixty-four hours, of which let us assign twelve hours for our daily meals. (This allows thirty minutes for each meal, and one-and- one-half hours extra to promote good digestion. ) We have left fifty-two hours, net, of conscious active life to devote to any purpose to which we are inclined. Is it too much to say that God requires a tithe of this free time? One tenth of fifty-two hours is 5.2 hours. How much of this tithe of time do we devote to strictly religious uses? If we attend church twice on Sabbath, that will take an hour. If we attend prayer meeting, another hour. We have two-tenths of an hour left, our little margin—shall we not stay for the Morning Watch? But when we review our lives, how few of us attend religious worship thus regularly!” —Christian Herald Tan, P . L. (1996, c1979). Prayer and a miracle are needed to save this world from this serious virus. That is why we have chosen to shut down our church in the interest of safety from the virus.

  4. Solomon’s Choice • 1 Kings 3:16 - 28 “Then two women who were harlots came to the king and stood before him. The one woman said, “Oh, my lord, this woman and I live in the same house; and I gave birth to a child while she was in the house. “It happened on the third day after I gave birth, that this woman also gave birth to a child, and we were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, only the two of us in the house. “This woman’s son died in the night, because she lay on it. “So she arose in the middle of the night and took my son from beside me while your maidservant slept, and laid him in her bosom, and laid her dead son in my bosom. “When I rose in the morning to nurse my son, behold, he was dead; but when I looked at him carefully in the morning, behold, he was not my son, whom I had borne.” Then the other woman said, “No! For the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son.” But the first woman said, “No! For the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.” Thus they spoke before the king. Then the king said, “The one says, ‘This is my son who is living, and your son is the dead one’; and the other says, ‘No! For your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.’” The king said, “Get me a sword.” So they brought a sword before the king. The king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other.” Then the woman whose child was the living one spoke to the king, for she was deeply stirred over her son and said, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and by no means kill him.” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours; divide him!” Then the king said, “Give the first woman the living child, and by no means kill him. She is his mother.” When all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had handed down, they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice.” (1 Kings 3:16–28 NAS95)

  6. Turn! Turn! Turn! Written by Pete Seeger Performed by The Byrds - 1965 “Since Ecclesiastes is traditionally ascribed to King Solomon in the 10th century BC, the Byrds' 1965 recording of the song holds the distinction in the U.S. of being the number 1 hit with the oldest lyrics.”

  7. “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven — A time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted. A time to kill and a time to heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance. A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing. A time to search and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear apart and a time to sew together; A time to be silent and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate; A time for war and a time for peace.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1–8 NAS95)

  8. •“It is worthy of remark, that in all this list there are but two things which may be said to be done generally by the disposal of God, and in which men can have but little influence: the time of birth, and the time of death. But all the others are left to the option of man, though God continues to overrule them by his providence. “ - Adam Clarke “It is worthy of remark, that in all this list there are but two things which may be said to be done generally by the disposal of God, and in which men can have but little influence: the time of birth, and the time of death. 9. Have you ever attempted to hold back winter or bring about spring or summer? How successful were you? Just as we are orbiting the sun and rotating on our axis, so time marches on.

  10. • “What profit is there to the worker from that in which he toils? I have seen the task which God has given the sons of men with which to occupy themselves. He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.” ( Ecclesiastes 3:9 – 11 NAS95 ) “What profit is there to the worker from that in which he toils? 11. New English Translation Word Study Comparison • “God has made everything fit beautifully in its appropriate time, but he has also placed ignorance in the human heart so that people cannot discover what God has ordained, from the beginning to the end of their lives.” ( Ecclesiastes 3:11 NET ) “God has made everything fit beautifully in its appropriate time, but he has also placed ignorance in the human heart so that people cannot discover what God has ordained, from the beginning to the end of their lives.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NET) The key word here is the Hebrew -“ Holam” - which could mean “darkness”, “conceal”, or “Secret” NET Bible Notes - “It may mean: (1) “ignorance”; (2) time reference: (a) “eternity” or (b) “the future”; or (3) “knowledge” (less likely).”

  12. • “It is God’s design that man realize that the present, material world does not constitute the sum of his existence. He is linked to two worlds, physically to this world, but mentally, emotionally, and psychologically to the eternal world. Even with his consciousness beclouded by sin, man seems dimly aware that he ought to continue living beyond the narrow confines of this unsatisfying life.” - SDA Bible Commentary “It is God’s design that man realize that the present, material world does not constitute the sum of his existence.
