What Happened – March 22, 2016 11:02 am (during 7-13 shift) • • Control board failed at Eversource Station 385 (in South Boston) • Caused complete power loss at Deer Island - Plant flow 379 MGD just prior to outage - Plant energy demand 17.0 MW - 12.5 MW purchased
Full Plant Power Outage Recovery V. Historical Performance Flows returned to pre-event conditions by 12:45pm (1.75 hrs after outage) Eversource Power restored, CTG returned to Standby by 3:25 pm (4 hrs 23 minutes after outage)
Post Event Assessment Overall Effect: • – All flows retained in Collection System – No CSOs, SSOs or raw sewage releases – Staff response excellent, minimal downtime – All flows sent to Deer Island received full treatment
Post Event Assessment (cont.) • CTG 1A failed to start – later ID’d failed fuel pump Several control system cards failed - $7,000 • • Misc. equipment failures – Air compressor – pH transmitter – Other minor items – Under $10,000 for repairs (mostly personnel time)
