  2. Conventions ● Our product took the conventions of a thriller which includes suspense, tension and excitement and took that into consideration when creating our product. The conventions of a thriller was achieved between my group members and I. ● We achieved the conventions of thriller through the micro-elements of a film such as lighting, camera shots, music costumes and character representation. ● The conventions used ○ Saturated Red lighting ○ Shadows ○ Dark clothing ○ Suspenseful music ○ Extreme close ups and close ups ○ Props such as knives, rope, pictures

  3. Lighting ● In our film we used saturated red lighting which emphasizes the genre of a thriller in our film as saturated red lights represent violence and aggression. This lighting being casted on our main male character allows for this character to demonstrate his intentions are bad without having any dialogue to do so. ● The use of dark lighting and shadows was used to differentiate the intentions between the two characters as the good character is only shown with bright and soft lighting. The shadows represent this character having an inner darkness that the other character is unaware of adding the conventions of a thriller. ● Lighting plays a major role in our final product at is one of the many aspects in determining the thriller genre of our product.

  4. Costumes and props ● Dark clothing vs. Light clothing ● Dark clothing including a black hoodie was used purposefully for our male character that demonstrates bad intentions. The color black is associated with fear, mystery and strength adding to the conventions of a thriller. The hoodie also adds a mysterious effect of not showing his facing in the film. ● Light clothing such as a white dress was used for our female character to demonstrate her good intentions. The color white is associated with purity and innocent which can be seen through our female character ● Props although they are minor add the most effect. We used red yarn to connect pictures, knives, rope, names scratched off on paper and directions are placed on the male characters desk. These props are done to signify that this character is bad and is a potential stalker.

  5. Sound ● Sound also plays a role in the conventions of a thriller this is because certain sounds increase the suspense of the film and effect of it. ● In the scenes with the male character we incorporated mysterious dark toned music that added to the climax of our final product. Without incorporating dark and mysterious non-diegetic music the scenes of the male would not give off a suspicious feel and leave the audience confused as to what genre our film is. ● To clearly differentiate the characters we included a song that is about young love with our female character

  6. Camera shots ● Extreme close ups and close ups ● Extreme close ups are most of the shots used for the male character to build up the suspense of the film. These extreme close ups were of his hands eyes and face which being so close up causes the audience to become tense and suspicious about this character. Also, these shots give off an uncomfortable feel as they are getting up close and personal with this character that is clearly demonstration and giving off a bad feeling. ● Close ups are also used in the film. These shots allow the audience to connect with this male character and really understand that his intentions are not good. We made sure to not clearly show his face as the hoodie covers most of his face adding to the suspense.

  7. Representation ● Our film only includes two characters on screen that are both white which represents the stereotypical white person in film even though there are no stereotypical scenes of white people in the film. Also, there is no representation of whites in a positive or negative way but rather neutrally ● This film does demonstrate the social group of young adults and how they can be naive when it comes to online dating and meeting new people. This can be seen in the film as the female character has set high expectations of the guy she has met adding to the stereotypical way a woman looks for in a guy as she describes everything she expects in a guy. ● There is the typical representation of female and male. The male is portrayed as superior to the female and the female is inferior to the male asshe is seen as naive

  8. Audience engagement/Distrubution ● Our final product engages our audience as it is towards the demographics of teens and young adults. The engagement can come from the audience being able to relate to the situation that is occurring with the increase of social media and the high expectations that may be seen online but does not hold to be true. ● Targeting these demographics through situations that can happen to them can allow the audience feel an emotional connection with the character further engaging them in the film as they feel a sense of sympathy for her ● Since the main demographics of the film is teens and young adults the film can be distributed through social media as this is a major media outlet for those demographics

  9. Development of Production skills ● Throughout our production of our film I began to understand the importance of micro elements and its effect on the genre of the film and the mise en scene of the film. All of these must be incorporated to allow the audience understand the genre of the film clearly without having to question it. Furthermore, the most simplest things add the most effect to the film such as the extreme close ups utilized in our final product emphasized that our film was a thriller. Another skill that I developed through this process was lighting and perfecting the three point lighting system. Although it sounds easy the three point lighting system is very difficult to achieve and perfect. I was able to see how different intensities and different settings of lighting makes a major difference and takes some time to perfect the shadows and glares. Through this process my production skills have allowed me to develop a better understanding of how to each element incorporated plats and important role.

  10. Integration of technologies ● Canon t6i- ○ This was the camera that was used to film our final product with the best quality possible ● iMovie ○ This was platform in which we edited the film ● Youtube ○ The diegetic and nondiegetic music used in our film was found through youtube as we included a eerie instrument and Location by Khalid through Youtube to add to our thriller ● iPhone ○ We used an iPhone to film our phone call conversation also was used as a prop when taking selfies in our film ● Macbook ○ The macbook computer was used as a prop in order to be on the online platform, Facebook. By doing this it signified the male character's bad intentions
