Consecration for a New Day THEMES AND TRANSITIONING
The Process • Nov- PFC paused the pursuit of new Elders and a new organizational structure discussion to invite outside perspective and wisdom • Dec/Jan- The leadership at PFC walked through an extensive interview and discernment process with consultants from Teaching the Word Ministries to clarify the next steps in pursuing God’s vision for a new leadership/discipleship model • Jan- Pastor Tim spent 2 days away in prayer to seek God’s direction on behalf of our church body • Feb- A preliminary report from TTWM was presented to the Elders and Staffing Board to begin discussion of God’s purposes for PFC
TWM’s Discernment PFC is being called to recognize and reorganize its leadership, according to a biblical pattern to more effectively engage its mission. PFC, particularly, must organize to accommodate the apparent growth from a small church family to a multiple family equipping church
Jesus’ Teachings Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved. Matthew 9:17
Discernment Themes Transition- New Organization and New Culture Covenant Membership Shepherding the growing numbers of individuals committing to PFC Empowering Gifts and Callings of the PFC Congregation Sending Culture (Firefly Army) Pastoral Leadership restructuring Ministry of Prayer
Discernment Themes Questions: 40 Days of Consecration Lent (40 days until Palm Sunday) • What are the things in my life that I need to let go of to create space Break from Mid-week programs for me to focus more on Christ and Prayer- communal times of prayer his Kingdom on earth? • What can I sacrifice to Him during this time? • How can I better understand what consecration means? • What does God want my role to be in his church? • How should I pray?
The Aim of the New Structure: Care- to develop a way to include, care for, and shepherd each member of the PFC community Mobilization- to create a culture of equipping and empowering to allow each member to fulfill their role in the “firefly” army; and to empower and create opportunity for our leaders to steward God’s grace for our region.
