DONG Energy – Denmark and the UK • Comes from the home of Offshore Wind and all parts of the supply chain present in Denmark. • UKTI works closely with DONG Energy in the Offshore Industry and HQ in Denmark due to the large investments in UK (5 GW) • Major driver in the Nothern European market and UKTI follows this closely in all markets • Project orginisation vs. Danish based managmenet and decision base • Suppliers to DONG Energy just as important as DONG Energy themselves 6
4 P’s: Preparation, Partners, Pro -active, Professional • Prepare yourself to getting in contact with DONG Energy or any other client – Pre-qualification necessary, Other suppliers more relevant, Group organisation – UK/Danish Project Organisation • Partner up with Danish companies in different parts of the supply chain and find out what project other suppliers are working on • Pro-Actively seek opportunities after pre-qualification, follow up with visits to Denmarks offshore wind industry after meeting at events. Often Danish companies won’t reply via email • Professional means respsect requirements in the tender process and qualifications. Understand the formalities in the procurement system. 7
Opportunities and Barriers for the UK-Companies Opportunities: • ”Systems Supply” instead of ”Component Supply” • Partnerships instead of one off deals • O&M market holds large potential in the UK • 2 Offshore projects, up to 7 nearshore and Viking Link Interconnector (DK) Barriers: • Strong ties across industry and throughout the Danish wind supply chain • Local network of contacts and service partners are crucial 8
