The BC Ministry of Education recently revamped the curriculum in all areas of study and for all grade levels. The purpose of the capstone project (also known as a culminating project or experience) is to give senior students an opportunity to showcase their passions, interests and/or abilities as a demonstration of what they have learned throughout their education and experiences both in and out-of-school. Students will be responsible for: proposing, designing, developing and assembling a capstone project. The capstone project will culminate in a small group presentation that will include: your CLC teacher, a small group of your fellow students who will also be presenting their capstone projects, invited mentors, and community members. What could/should my Capstone Project be about? Your capstone project could (we prefer could over should), be an exploration that reflects your deepest interests, big questions, abilities, and/ or something you think the world needs. It could be related to service, learning, volunteerism, employment, fieldwork, entrepreneurship, etc... Your capstone could be a deeper look into what steps your future self needs to take in order to reach your career and life goals. This could also include how you hope your future self will positively impact the community/ world. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide what would best represent what you are most connected to and spend the most time thinking about or experiencing. Components of the Capstone Project While the final project and presentation are integral elements of the capstone project, the process leading up to your final project are equally important and will be assessed as part your final capstone project.
