Changing Environment New Proficiency Definition “College and Career Ready” Being successful in college without having to take remedial courses 40-50% of students in New York State two-year colleges have to take remedial courses
Changing Environment Adoption of new Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) that are “Career and College Ready” • Emphasis on critical thinking skills not rote learning Changes in the state assessments • Increased rigor as the tests transition to the CCLS • Change in scoring • PARCC assessments

Issues and Opportunities NYSED has designated the district as a Focus School District • Joint NYSED and district review to formulate a strategic plan for school improvement

Table Discussions There will be a rotation of tables by participants approximately every 15 minutes (time permitting) Table scribes will take notes that summarize the conversations and capture additional questions Table scribes will record KEY points/questions on the Flip Chart for reporting out at the end Table scribes will report out (briefly and concisely) on the 3 most important points/ questions recorded over the evening Participants are encouraged at the end of the evening to sign up on the sheets provided for the various Action Implementation Teams
