Requirements for Admission MINIMUM: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) l Maplewood Transcript and Summary - 30 credits by the end of June. ü Also compulsory credits required . ü 40 hours of Community Service ü PLUS : Some programs will require specific courses l (e.g. Behavioural Science Technology Program at SLC requires: Grade 12 English C or U level Grade 11 Math C, U or M level (Grade 12 Math C, U or M level recommended) One of Grade 11 or Grade 12 Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Science C, U or M level Check the specific website for prerequisites l Note: **Specific prerequisites may change and vary from one College to another l and from year to year – Check College Website for most up-to-date information.

Other Important Information l Repeated courses do not count as two credits l Most Colleges do NOT give extra credit for taking courses at the “U” level l College diplomas often receive credit for University transfer. Be sure to contact the college and university directly. Do NOT make assumptions about transfers. l If you have an IEP, you must self-identify. It does not automatically transfer to College.

  7. Application Process l All applications will be done on-line l Students access the application at www.ontariocolleges.ca l The fee is $95 for up to 5 choices (3 at any one College) – paid by Credit Card l Applications MUST be completed by Christmas break

  8. Highly Competitive Programs These are programs that have more applicants than spots available. It is important to apply EARLY! Depending on the program, colleges may require specific secondary school subjects as prerequisites, and they may set minimum grade cut-offs in these subjects. Some programs may also require a portfolio, essay, or other supporting documentation. Pay attention to DEADLINES!

Type of Programs Available in Colleges Regular diploma – 2 year program l An advanced diploma – 3 year program l Certificate programs – 1year program l Four-year college degree programs offer the best of both worlds: a solid l foundation of theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to apply this knowledge in the real world. Graduate certificates – needs a diploma or degree l Collaborative programs – both college and university l Apprenticeship programs l
