Project Background • Following public input in 2018, Martindale Park was selected as the site of a new children’s spray pad. • We also heard from residents that some parks in the College Park area are outdated and that areas of community lack parkland and park amenities. • As a result of responses we received throughout the community, and with support of your ward councilors, the College Park area parks study was established. Canada’s Best Place to Live (MoneySense 2018)

Project Background (continued) • Public engagement will be a key component to this project. • This public meeting represents the beginning of a parks planning study for the College Park area. • There is no approved funding at this time. The final plan will assist in the prioritization of capital budget requests to Council. • We are in the information gathering stage and we want to hear from you to help plan for future needs of the community. Project Objectives • Develop a plan to guide the future planning and development of park amenities; • Develop a public consultation program which demonstrates a fair, open and transparent process; • Understand the current needs within the community; • Create a diversity of park elements within the ‘campus’ while ensuring connectivity and response to growing community needs; and • Maintain a level of unprogrammd parkland as a valuable resource for unscheduled and spontaneous play Canada’s Best Place to Live (MoneySense 2018)

  7. Purpose of Today’s Meeting Meeting is part of planned community outreach initiatives designed to obtain feedback . Feedback received will guide future improvements to parks, trails and open spaces within the College Park area. Key questions: • How do you use your parks, trail and open spaces? • What improvements are needed and where? For example: • Is there a need for more children’s play areas? • Is more parking needed? • Are your parks barrier free and accessible to all? • Is it difficult to find shade or seating in the summer? The MBTW Group’s Role • MBTW is a consultant to the Town of Oakville providing expertise in landscape architecture and urban design . • MBTW’s scope is to assess the existing conditions of the parks and open spaces, obtain feedback from the community, and to provide recommendations for future improvements. Canada’s Best Place to Live (MoneySense 2018)

  10. The MBTW Group’s Role • MBTW assisted the Town with a similar exercise for the South East Community Centre project . • Scope included a review of 6 existing and proposed parks to coordinate appropriate programming and to develop high-level design concepts for each space. South East Oakville Parks within 400m of the proposed new Community Centre Canada’s Best Place to Live (MoneySense 2018)

What We’ve Heard About Active Parks Include a splash pad Need washrooms Go to enjoy the outdoors Include more picnic areas and seating Parks should be Update the play equipment accessible for all Play sports (soccer, badminton, frisbee) More shade and flowering trees Need more garbage Consider including dog areas receptacles Improve walking and cycling trails Community gardens and diverse, native planting Skating rink Take kids to the park to play Canada’s Best Place to Live (MoneySense 2018)

Next Steps… • Survey results to be gathered and analyzed , feedback from this meeting to be included • Team to prepare preliminary recommendations and guiding principles for each park, open space and trail within the system • Coordinate with other town initiatives • Preliminary results will be reported back to you this summer/early fall. • Present findings to Council for approval as part of the town’s capital budget process.
