  3. Students must take all tests SAT – April 12 (College Entrance Exam) WorkKeys – April 13 (Career Readiness Assessments) Michigan Science Test – April 14 Michigan Soc Studies Test – April 15 Student performance is also used to “Grade” Coldwater High School

  4. SAT and WorkKeys are paper and pencil tests that your children will take at the Free Methodist Church on Fremont Street. The Michigan Science and Social Studies tests will be completed on Chromebooks here at CHS.

  5. THESE ARE ALL ASSESSMENTS FROM THE COLLEGE BOARD ALL 8 TH – 11 TH GRADE STUDENTS TAKE ONE OF THESE EACH YEAR 9 th and 10 th grade students will take the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10 on the same day as the Juniors take the SAT test – April 12 th .

  7. Day 1 – April 12th New SAT Test The SAT Test has 4 tests and an Essay Very Similar to the PSAT they took last Spring.

  9. Day 1 – April 12th New SAT Test Math Test – No Calculator 20 Questions – 25 minutes Math Test – Calculator Allowed 38 Questions – 55 minutes

  12. Day 1 – April 12th New SAT Test - Essay Students will read a passage and then explain how the author builds an argument to persuade an audience. Students must support their explanation with evidence from the passage.

  13. The Prompt – Practice in English Class As you read the passage below, consider how [the author] uses • evidence, such as facts or examples, to support claims. • reasoning to develop ideas and to connect claims and evidence. • stylistic or persuasive elements, such as word choice or appeals to emotion, to add power to the ideas expressed. Write an essay in which you explain how [the author] builds an argument to persuade [his/her] audience that [author’s claim]. In your essay, analyze how [the author] uses one or more of the features listed above (or features of your own choice) to strengthen the logic and persuasiveness of [his/her] argument. Be sure that your analysis focuses on the most relevant features of the passage. Your essay should not explain whether you agree with [the author’s] claims, but rather explain how the author builds an argument to persuade [his/her] audience .

  14. Day 2 – April 13 WorkKeys Reading for Information (33 questions in 45 minutes) WorkKeys Applied Mathematics (33 questions in 45 minutes) WorkKeys Locating Information (38 questions in 45 minutes)

  15. National Career Readiness Certificates WorkKeys is a program recognized by employers and education entities nationwide. WorkKeys assessment results and certificates can help individuals find job opportunities wherever they live. Various occupations require specific levels of performance on the three tests. Individuals who score at certain levels (7 is the highest) on the three WorkKeys assessments will qualify for a coded skill level certificate.

  16. Bronze – score at least a level 3 in each of the three tests. Qualified for 35% of the jobs in the WorkKeys database. Silver – score at least a level 4 in each of the three tests. Qualified for 60% of the jobs in the WorkKeys database. Gold – score at least a level 5 in each of the three tests. Qualified for 90% of the jobs in the WorkKeys database. HIGHEST LEVEL! Platinum – score at least a level 6 in each of the three tests. Qualified for 99% of the jobs in the WorkKeys database. The Certificate can be verified by employers for up to five years from the issue date.

  17. Part 3 – Michigan Tests April 14-15 These tests will cover content in Science and Social Studies that is not tested on the SAT test. These tests are taken online

  18. This part of the testing is called the M-STEP The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress

  19. The sample M-Step items can be found at the following link using Google Chrome: https://wbte.drcedirect.com/MI/portals/mi/ott1 Click on Sample Item Sets and Grade 11 . You can select Science or Social Studies . Once on the sign in page, use the username and password displayed on the screen to log in. Teachers are having students log into the site just to see what the online M-STEP will look like. (The site does not score the answers for the students.)

  21. Students will need to use their test taking skills: Don’t spend too much time on any one question Answer all questions (Make an EDUCATED guess if needed) Get a good nights rest Have something for breakfast Have a good attitude Push yourself to succeed!

  22. They will take a full practice SAT test on March 18 th to help prepare for the real test in April.

  24. Students have had many opportunities in their classes to work on SAT-like activities.

  25. 9 th – 11 th grade teachers have been taking the practice tests and placing items and activities into their instruction this year. English and Math teachers have been having students utilize the Khan Academy site for help and practice. All juniors were given a tour of the site and information about the free phone app from the SAT site.
