ATTENDANCE
Attendance State law requires that a student between the ages of 6 and 19 attend school , as well as any applicable accelerated instruction program, extended year program, or tutorial session, unless the student is otherwise excused from attendance or legally exempt. Must attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. Make up hours will be required in order to receive credit for days missed over THE REQUIRED 10%
Excused Absences State law allows exemptions to the compulsory attendance requirements for several types of absences if the student makes up all work. These include the following activities and events: ● Religious holy days; ● Required court appearances; ● Activities related to obtaining U.S. citizenship; ● Documented health-care appointments ● Approved college visits

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS Community colleges are open enrollment , meaning that everyone that submits an application will be accepted. Universities have different criteria for automatic admission, holistic review, and conditional acceptance. ● Top 10% rule ● What Universities consider in holistic review

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT ● Students can request a high school transcript through Naviance. They will either be sent electronically or through the mail depending on how the college accepts them. ● It is usually recommended to wait until you have submitted your application for admission before requesting your transcript.
APPLY TEXAS ESSAYS ● Essay A: Tell us your story. What unique opportunities or challenges have you experienced throughout your high school career that have shaped who you are today? ● Essay B: Most students have an identity, an interest, or a talent that defines them in an essential way. Tell us about yourself. ● Essay C: You’ve got a ticket in your hand – Where will you go? What will you do? What will happen when you get there?
TSI ● The TSI or Texas Success Initiative is used to determine if a student is ready for college-level coursework in the areas of reading, math and writing. ● Students are exempt from taking the TSI if they have the following scores on SAT/ACT: ○ SAT – 480 EBRW, 530 Math ○ ACT – Composite of 23 with a 19 in English and 19 in Math ● Juniors take the TSI in the spring

WHAT IS FINANCIAL AID? Federal, state, institutional, and private fund(s) used to assist eligible students in funding their education. Financial aid can be a combination of scholarships, grants, loans, waivers, and student employment.
APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID ● FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid ○ www.fafsa.gov ○ Application opens October 1 st ○ You will use prior prior year’s tax returns ( 2019 tax returns) ○ We will offer financial aid workshops in October
HOW IS AID DETERMINED The EFC (expected family contribution) is determined by looking at your family’s income, assets, and benefits and how many people you have in the household and how many will attend college during the year. COA (cost of attendance) - EFC = financial need
