CHANGE THE WORLD BY BRINGING SAFE DRINKING WATER
800 million people in the world still lack access to safe drinking water, 80% of them living in rural commu- nities (UNICEF). In Cambodia alone, 5 million people living in rural areas still have no access to safe drinking water and the children mortality rate is of 20% mainly due to water related diseases. ISSuES AT STAKE
Inspired by Louis Pas- teur which often said that “we drink 90% of our di- seases”, the 1001fontaines co-founders designed the pro- ject with the profound belief that 2 litres of safe drinking water per day at an affordable price could improve the life of millions of people in remote areas. “we drink 90% of our diseases” Louis Pasteur
Small water treatment facilities are implemented in remote villages and entrus- ted to small private opera- tors (entrepreneurs) trained to produce and distribute safe drinking water at an affordable price to the villa- gers. A SOCIAL BuSINESS mODEL
1001 fontaines uses a simple and low cost technology to produce safe water at the point of consumption : Sur- face water is pumped from rivers or ponds, then purified with UV filtration and em- bottled in clean & sealed 20 L bottles quALITY
The water is delivered directly to the homes of the beneficia- ries, guaranteeing the quality of the water up to the point of consumption. The price of the water (currently around USD 0.013) is set in agreement with the community. ACCESSIBILITY
The revenues generated by the water sales guarantee the financial sustaina- bility of the initiative, as well as provide economic incentives to maximize the number of beneficiaries. SuSTAINABILITY OF THE mODEL
350 000 beneficiaries in 3 countries (Cambodia, Madagascar, India) 150 entrepreneurs 500 jobs created 90 000 children have an access to safe drinking water for free, thus reducing absenteim by 75%. 22 $ cost per beneficiary . OuR SOCIAL ImpACT
