Enhanc Enhancing ICA ing ICANN A NN Accoun untability ability As ini=al discussions around the transi=on took place, the commu mmunity raised the broader topic of the imp mpact of the change on ICANN’s accountability. ⇢ The transi=on would end the U.S. Government’s historical contractual rela=onship with ICANN. ⇢ This rela=onship has been perceived as a backstop with regard to ICANN’s organiza=on-wide accountability. ICANN launched a second process, parallel but interrelated with As As a a the IANA Stewardship Transi=on process, to examine from an result result organiza=onal perspec=ve how ICANN’s broader accountability mechanisms should be strengthened to address the absence of the U.S. Government.
CCW CCWG-Acc G-Accou ountability Since December 2014, a working group of ICANN community members has developed a set of proposed enhancements to ICANN’s accountability to the global Internet community. This document is being distributed for the considera=on and approval of the working group’s 6 Chartering Organiza=ons.
Wo Work Streams To address accountability concerns raised during ini=al discussions on IANA Stewardship Transi=on, the ICANN community requested that ICANN’s exis=ng accountability mechanisms be reviewed and enhanced as a key part of the transi=on process. As a result, the Cross Community Working Group on Enhancing ICANN Accountability (CCWG-Accountability) was convened. GOAL: GOAL : The CCWG-Accountability is expected to deliver proposals that would enhance ICANN’s accountability towards all its stakeholders. It is intended that Work Stream 2 will be completed by the end of 2016.
