KEY POINTS What does the future of health careers look like? • Nursing: Lots of opportunities in rural areas. Students are now being placed in rural areas more often and are thoroughly enjoying it. • Midwifery: Huge demand for midwives overall. The average age of a midwife is 40-50 years, so this demand is predicted to increase. • Health: Asia opening up opportunities, including combining more hospital care with primary health care and community care. • Sport and Exercise: A huge majority of students study S&E to get into Physio, however only approximately 1/3 actually get into physio. There is lots of opportunities for students to work in rehab centres. health.uts.edu.au
KEY POINTS Why is Midwifery such a competitive course? • Due to a lack of clinical placements. • Our Director of Studies Rosemarie works tirelessly to maintain and gain more clinical placements. How can students succeed in Sport and Exercise Science? • Credit/Distinction average in subjects like Maths and the Sciences is recommended for students to really excel . Are there international job prospects for Health students? • Nursing and Midwifery students may need to complete bridging courses to be clinically eligible to work in another country. • All UTS:Health students are encouraged to take up study abroad opportunities and financial assistance is provided for this. health.uts.edu.au
