Credit for Employment Guidelines “ Manitoba Education and Training is pleased to release this online, unedited DRAFT version of the Credit for Employment Guidelines which may be implemented by schools on a voluntary basis, starting in February 2016. ” “ Credit for Employment (CFE) will allow students to earn high school credit for paid work experience, to encourage and recognize the skills development and experience gained through employment. These Credit for Employment Guidelines can be used by educators, administrators, parents and students to support the planning, monitoring, evaluating, reporting of student experiences related to the Credit for Employment. ” “ Schools across the province are invited to use the DRAFT Credit for Employment Guidelines starting in February 2016, and/or anytime thereafter. If your school chooses to voluntarily implement CFE, please contact Manitoba Education and Training to: convey your intentions, obtain further information on this optional credit, and provide your feedback on the guidelines provided. Your feedback will help us: identify gaps, clarify content, and develop the final version of the Credit for Employment Guidelines. The courses will assist students in making a realistic assessment of the many opportunities available upon graduation and how to prepare for them. The Grade 9 and 10 courses are available for implementation in September 2007. It is anticipated that these new courses will replace the School-Initiated Career Development courses (SICs) effective in September 2007. These courses are based on: “ The Blueprint for Life/Work Designs ” “ To complement this idea of career development as life/work designs, Manitoba Education and Training has adopted the Blueprint for Life/Work Designs as the provincial framework of learning outcomes for Career Development, Kindergarten to Grade 12. The life/work skills identified in the Blueprint are the result of many years of developing, piloting, revising and implementing this new life/work skills framework and include 11 core skills or competencies, sorted into three areas:  Personal Management  Learning and Work Exploration  Life/Work Building The Blueprint is more than a matrix of competencies students should master to become healthy, self-reliant citizens able to effectively cope with the many work and other transitions they will encounter in their lives. ” New Projects under development: 5. Career Development Internship Course (CDI) Grade 11 and 12 Unpaid In the fall of this year, a new Career Development Internship will be offered that involved a full credit course (110 hours). 10 hours will be devoted to in class work and 100 hours will be on the job work experience. More info will be coming from the Department of Education from Ruth Stargardter, Career Development Consultant. Targeted area of expertise (academic or vocational) 6. Life/Works 25S Informnet Course St. James-Assiniboia is currently offering a half credit Life/Work Exploration Course online to students in their school division as a pilot this semester. Once this course is completed and feedback has been obtained and acted upon from students and teachers, it may be offered in second semester to interested school divisions. Students use the CareerCruising.com website to learn about careers.
