Foundation of Estonian UAS • Applied (professional) higher education is higher education of the first cycle, the purpose of which is to acquire the competencies necessary for working in a certain profession or for continuing studies at the master’s level; • Today Estonian Rectors’ Conference of UAS includes 10 Estonian universities of applied sciences: – 2 private institutions; – 8 state professional higher education institutions.

Important Dates • October 16, 1940 – Tallinn Medical School was founded; • 2002 – Basic nursing education studies started in Kohtla- Järve Medical School; • 2005 – Tallinn Medical School became a higher education institution and was renamed Tallinn Health Care College; • 2006 – Kohtla- Järve Medical School became a structural unit of Tallinn Health Care College; • 2007 – studies started in Pärnu Hospital.
Accreditations and external evaluations • 2012 – Institutional Accreditation The Quality Assessment Council of the Estonian Higher Education Quality Agency decided to accredit the Tallinn Health Care College for seven years. • 2015 – Accreditation of Vocational Education • 2016 – Quality Assesment

Practical Training • Practical training forms 30-50% of the studies; • Wide network of practical placements all over Estonia; • Individual support is provided by the mentor at the practical placement, supervisor at the college and the tutor student.

International Exchange 2015/2016 • 98 students of Tallinn Health Care College (8,6%) studied and did practical training abroad; • 63 teachers and staff members of Tallinn Health Care College (46,9%) were teaching or studying in partner institutions.
