Butler Farms Green Farms for a Greener Future
Butler Farms? We are a High-Tech Confined Animal Feeding Operation Clean Air | Pollutant-Free Groundwater
We’ve invested a lot in our farm to be a good Neighbor. We are determined to be as environmentally friendly as we can afford.
Our responsibility starts with the hog waste. We produce a lot of it! Each pig produces an average of 1.2 gallons of waste per day and 4.1 standard cubic feet of biogas methane each day.
Where does all that waste and gas go? lagoon lagoon Farm pond Back in 2000, it was drained into these open lagoon pits. The waste was used as fertilizer and the biogas was released into the atmosphere.
We saw open lagoons as one way to handle waste. But we thought covered lagoons were better. covered lagoon covered lagoons So we installed lagoon covers in 2008.
Covered lagoons had a multitude of benefits. Rainwater Sequester Odor Exclusion Reduction CO2 and CH4 (Save Additional (Good PR) (Greenhouse Gases) Pumping Cost) Increases Lowers Your Carbon Credits Fertilizer Pan Ammonia (Carbon Market (2.8% To 11% Emissions Has a Future) N Avg. 7.5)
The biggest benefit of all. Biogas trapped under lagoon digester cover was now ready to be used as FUEL
So the fuel was there, and we harnessed it. Our Energy Powerhouse 180 KW Bio Generator by Mann
This is how we destroy Greenhouse Gases 600° Centigrade
What the Future Holds ? MICRO GRIDS
