  2. Called To Transformation • SPIRITUAL CONTEXT: Mark 6: 37-43, Familiar story of Jesus’ feeding the 5,000 with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish • SPIRITUAL JOURNEY: Came to recognize the power of Holy Spirit working in our midst to help us begin to feed the hungry. 2

MISSION • ALLIANCE : Provide a network (forum) for food providers, community organizations, churches, schools and concerned citizens to build relationships , raise awareness , educate , and communicate to work together to feed the hungry in Burnet County • TRINITY : Be the catalyst to bring food providers, community organizations, churches, schools and concerned citizens together so that these community leaders can develop strategies to end hunger in Burnet County 3

  5. TIMELINE • INSPIRATION: o Spring 2015: Member of Ministry and Outreach (M&O) Commission attended an Ethics Seminar on Hunger. Presenter Jeremy Everett, Texas Hunger Initiative, Baylor University, inspired her with his call to end to hunger in Texas 5

TIMELINE, CONTINUED • CURRENCY OF RELATIONSHIPS: INTERNAL (CHURCH) RELATIONSHIPS o Summer 2015: M&O Commission decided to present idea of creating a coalition to end hunger in Burnet County to our Rector and Associate Priest o Summer 2015: Rector authorized M&O members to present idea to church members, including Vestry o Summer 2015: Church members supported exploration of Trinity’s becoming the catalyst to build a hunger coalition 6

TIMELINE, CONTINUED CURRENCY OF RELATIONSHIP: EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS • o Summer 2015-March 2016: M&O members developed relationships with staff of Texas Hunger Initiative and Episcopal Health Foundation to build knowledge base o These two external relationships led to Currency of Truth and Currency of Gracious Leadership o March-June 2016: M&O members developed relationships with over 40 potential members of a coalition to end hunger o March-June 2016: Our Rector invited clergy from a wide range of denominations and non-denominational churches to participate in the coalition o June 2016: Trinity members identified a facilitator, not a member of Trinity, to lead the group initially. 7

TIMELINE, CONTINUED ACTION: • o July 2016: First meeting of group that named itself “Burnet County Hunger Alliance” o July –November 2016: Alliance facilitator built website, members created social media presence, members decided upon the scope of activities and planned first activity o Last Week of December 2016: Alliance sponsored 2 community meals o January- May 2017: Alliance planned and implemented groceries to go program to provide groceries to home-bound people o March 2017: Trinity leaders and 2 alliance members attended Holy Currencies training o August 2017: Alliance brought 2 school districts together to conduct survey to find out why students did not come for summer meals 8

  9. TIMELINE, CONTINUED • ACTION, CONTINUED o SEPTEMBER 2017 to present: Alliance continues to:  brainstorm ideas to highlight issue of hunger,  solve problems confronting food providers,  develop new strategies to feed the hungry,  support Alliance members in their work. 9
