Brain Parts Presentation Biology Club Lab 1
Frontal Lobe: Parietal Lobe: Occipital Lobe: Thinking and processing, Language, spatial Visual information memory, behavior Sensory Cortex Motor Cortex (Parietal Love): (Frontal Lobe): Processing Voluntary movement sensations Temporal Lobe: Language, auditory Cerebellum: Brain Stem: Balance & Regulates autonomous functions movement (breathing, heart rate, body temp)
Optic chiasm: connects brain to eye; blind spot where optic nerves travel toward the chasm Olfactory bulbs: processes sense of smell
Thalamus: relays sensory and motor information (except smell), sleep regulation and alertness Hypothalamus: hormone production, regulates body functions (hunger, sleep, mood, temperature…), controls pituitary gland, part of endocrine & limbic systems
Hippocampus: memory, long-term memory formation, spatial navigation, emotion - damage to this area can result in inability to form new memories Amygdala: fear, aggression, anxiety, and arousal, associated with fear conditioning, responsible for related emotional responses
