What is the Best Practice Certification Scheme? • Voluntary certification scheme for AD plants, focussing on: - Environmental protection - Health and safety - Operational performance • Will be inclusive for the different types and sizes of AD plants. • Sets out industry best practice as defined through industry engagement. • Will allow plant operators to have their plant assessed against the best practice criteria and have potential areas for improvement identified.

Pilot – summer 2017 Desired outcomes: • Identify any unforeseen issues with the scheme criteria or scheme rules. • Understand the differences in approach at different types of AD plant. • Understand the time requirements (for auditor and the operator). • Learning experience for all involved. • Ultimately, give confidence to proceed to scheme launch in December.

Potential benefits include: • Improve staff safety and environmental protection. • Reduced regulatory fees and lighter touch regulation. • Reduced insurance costs and more favourable terms. • Better financing deals. • Understanding of and recommendations for how to improve performance.
