What is CAMS 7? • A 7 th grade mathematics elective • The goal of the program is an introduction to computational thinking and computer science • Students will engage in project based learning, and use creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration as the process for exploration
What is CAMS 7? • CAMS 7 is a year-long elective which will meet every other day for 86-90 minutes • Course will be held in a computer lab • Students will utilize the program Scratch for the first semester • Students will utilize the program Agent Cubes for the second semester • A teacher certified in Secondary Math, Computer Science, or Business and Information Technology will instruct the class

How Do I Register? • Students will have the opportunity to sign-up by completing a Google survey indicating their interest • Students will have from Tuesday, February 7-Friday, February 10 to complete the survey • A maximum of 75 students can take the class • The link to the survey is: https://docs.google.com/a/lcps.org/forms/d/1Bj0AlpLJuW- aVgSKRKThc5HWOBnNhWACtBAdpH2sikI/edit?ts=58987ded
When Do I Know If I Got Into CAMS 7? • If more than 75 students select CAMS 7, a lottery process will be used to identify students who can take the course • Students will be assigned a number and a random number generator will be used to select which students will be placed into CAMS 7 • Students will be notified in early April if they will be placed in CAMS 7 • CAMS 7 will replace the original elective which students selected during course registration
Next Steps & What If… • Students who are interested in taking CAMS 7 should complete the Google interest survey this week • Students will find out in early April if they will be placed in the course • If the student changes their mind, the students and parents should notify Ms. Mawyer by Monday, April 17 • We will then notify students on the wait list and ask if they are interested in taking CAMS 7
Review of CAMS 7 • Mathematics elective which would take the place of a World Language or Communications elective • Students who select the course should have an interest in coding, computer science, and computational thinking • The majority of class time will be spent utilizing digital content either independently or in small groups • Students will use creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration as the process for exploration
