  5. MBTI Personality Test MBTI – Myers Briggs Type Indicator. Created by Katharine Briggs and Isabel Myers in 1943.

  6. What is it? A questionnaire designed to indicate psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions. In short, the MBTI is a personality test.

  7. Where is it used? MANY places! Many jobs require new employees to take the test so the employer can see what kind of employee they will be. Some college also require the test and pair roommates using it. We will use it in English class to help us work in helpful pairs, develop our strengths, recognize and build on our weaknesses, and learn about the best ways for us to be better writers.

  8. How does it work? After taking the MBTI, a person will be given a 4 letter code to describe their personality type.

  9. The first letter might be… I or E Introverted Extroverted • Likes time • Likes to be around others alone to think and “recharges and “recharge batteries” batteries” through talking to people .

  10. Activity In the square on your notes, draw your dream classroom. How will you organize the desks/tables? Will you include space for students to work together? A quiet reading area? You have 2 minutes to sketch a draft.

  11. Activity If you drew a classroom where students work together in groups more often than alone, you are probably an extrovert. If you drew a classroom that favors quiet work and sitting alone, you are probably an introvert. Below the activity, write whether you are an introvert or an extrovert.

  12. The second letter might be… S or N Sensing Intuition • Concerned with • Likes to “read what is actual, between the lines” and think present, about the current, and “what ifs” more proven by fact. than the facts .

  13. Activity For the next minute, write about the picture displayed below. There are no rules on how you write or what you write about, but use the picture to start your ideas.

  14. Activity If you described the two liter bottle and what you saw in front of you, you are probably a Sensing type. If you wrote about the flavor of the soda, what your favorite type of soda is, what kind of food you like to eat while drinking soda, how you like to shake the soda up and watch it explode, or other more “abstract” thoughts, you are probably Intuitive. Below the activity, write whether you are Sensing or Intuitive.

  15. The third letter might be… T or F Thinking Feeling Likes to • Concerned more • with values and analyze pros what is the best and cons, and for the people then be logical involved than with in deciding. logic or facts.

  16. Activity For the next two minutes, write about the following dilemma. Miss Harner has gotten 10 tickets for a free trip to Disney World to give to this class. The problem is, there are more than 10 of you! How should Miss Harner decide who to give the tickets to? What would be the fairest method?

  17. Activity If you described a fair method of deciding who got the tickets (such as drawing straws, highest grades, etc.), you are probably a Thinking type. If you described a method that lets those who are more deserving go (who wants to go the most, who is kindest, etc.) or if you said you would fund raise so EVERYONE would go, or if you said nobody should go, you are probably a Feeling type. Below the activity, write whether you are Thinking or Feeling.

  18. The fourth letter might be… J or P Perceiving Judging • Prefers a flexible and Prefers a planned • spontaneous way of or orderly way of life, wants to life, likes to have understand and adapt things settled and to the world rather organized than organize it.

  19. Activity You have a huge project that was just assigned. Do you … Do it right away? Or are you up late the night before it is due trying to finish? Why do you do it this way? You have 2 minutes to think and write.

  20. Activity If you said you’d do it right away, you are probably judging. If you said you’d wait until the last minute, you are probably perceiving. Below the activity, write whether you are Judging or Perceiving.

  21. Discussion Why do you think its important to understand these personality traits? Do you think that understanding how someone’s personality type is different or similar to yours can help you work together better? Why or why not?

  22. Exit Ticket On the blank side of the notecard (no lines) write “Predicted Personality Type”. Write which combination you predict you are and why. This will be a 4 letter combination – one from each of the 4 sections. (Introvert/Extrovert, Sensing/iNtuition, Thinking/Feeling, Judging/Perceiving) Put your name on this notecard and hand it to me on your way out.

  23. Homework: Please write this in your planner… No homework Have a great day! 
