Bedford Borough Council Internal Services
Vision “A Borough where people of all ages, particularly the most vulnerable are able to lead happy, independent lives and fulfil their potential.”
Today’s Presentation • Today I will be talking about Huddleston Way Supported Living Project and how it could support you • Sheena Blake will be talking about George Beal House respite service at the Partnership Board on 4 th December 2018
What is Supported Living? • Separate Housing and Support – The people providing your support and help should not be the people that provide your housing. • Person Centred Support – Support will be planned to help you to live independently. This could be what you would like to do and where you would like to live. • Open to Everyone – A person should be given the opportunity to live in their own home. There should be adaptations and support put in place to allow this.
Huddleston Way Supported Living Project • Huddleston Way is a short term service where you can live for 2 -3 years and have training and support to develop your independence. • You will have a separate tenancy agreement with Stonewater Housing Association. Your support will be provided by staff at Bedford Borough Council.
How we will help you • First we will complete an assessment with you to look at what you can do. • This will help us develop your support and training plan. • Huddleston Way is not able to support you with medication as they are not registered to do so.
If you Are Interested • If you are interested in being referred to Huddleston Way you should discuss this with your social worker or at your annual review. • You can also contact the Bedford Adult Learning Disabilities Team on 01234 276762.
Becoming a Shared Lives Carer Shared Lives is an excellent opportunity to offer people with support needs the chance to share in experiences of everyday life. If you are interested in becoming a Shared Lives Carer please contact a member of our team on 01234 228426.
