The services we provide • Shared Lives • Huddleston Way Supported Living • Bedford Independent Living Team • Supported Employment Service • George Beal House • Bedford Day Services – Kempston Centre and Gadsby Street who will be presenting at the next partnership board meeting You can access the services through your social worker.

Bedford Borough news • Shared Lives Bedford joined up with other local Shared Lives services and took part in a Christmas party on Saturday 1 st December which was really enjoyed by everyone who took part • Day Services had a very successful week of open days during November when people were invited to come and have a look round to see if they were interested in accessing the services

  5. What is George Beal House? • George Beal House is a respite service for adults aged over 18 years old • We are located in Kempston • George Beal House is a purpose built bungalow • We offer short stays to enable families and carers to have a break from their caring roles

  6. Who can stay at George Beal House? • Anyone over the age of 18 years old who has a learning disability can stay at George Beal House • We have 12 bedrooms • Service users can bring in their own items from home to personalise their stay • There are staff available at George Beal House 24 hrs a day to ensure everyone is well looked after and that their needs are met

What we can help you with during your stay: • We can help you with a number of things during your stay such as � Helping with medication � Helping with washing and dressing � Helping you with meal preparation or providing meals � Supporting you to go to activities during the day such as your usual day service etc. � Supporting you with activities in the evenings and weekend such as trips out to the cinema, pub into town

What facilities do we have? • George Beal has a range of specialist equipment such as hoists, profiling beds and specialist bathing facilities to help people with physical needs • We are very near to a good bus route and we also have our own specially adapted vehicle • We have a sensory room and lots of different activity equipment such as board games, a Wii and X Box games console, karaoke machine and arts and craft material

  9. What happens before you stay with us? • Our referrals usually come via the Adults with Learning Disabilities Team • Once they have agreed for you to come and stay, we will invite you to come and have a look round George Beal House • We will then come and meet with you and your family and talk about your needs and what you want from respite • If we feel we can offer you a place, then we will arrange for you to come and spend some short visits with us and also to stay with overnight to keep us to get to know you and you to know us • How many nights you stay with us each month will depend on what has been agreed by your care manager
