About Geneva ABOUT • Geneva is a gem of a city, set on the shores of Europe’s GENEVA & CERN largest Alpine lake. • Geneva is home to many international organisations including CERN. • The boat cruise on Lake Geneva is a real highlight of the trip and provides fantastic photo opportunities! • Public transport is excellent and all schools are given a Geneva Transport Card that entitles them to unlimited free use of all public transport. • So getting around this compact city is safe and a breeze!

Your Itinerary: Day 1 DAY 1 Thursday 25 th January 2018 16:25 – Meet at coffee shop just inside main entrance at Birmingham International Airport. Flight No: EZY1498 Boarding cards and passports will be handed out before YOUR ITINERARY security. Passports are retained by students for the duration of the visit (lockers available in rooms). 18:25 – Flight to Geneva. 21:10 – Flight arrival at Geneva Airport and transfer by train to Geneva. The accommodation is within a 10 minute walk from the train station. 22:15 – Arrive accommodation: Geneva Youth Hostel is the first choice for school accommodation!
Your Itinerary: Day 2 DAY 2 Friday 26 th January 2018 07:15 – Breakfast at accommodation. 08:16 – Transfer by tram to CERN. 09:00 - CERN guided tour . This visit lasts three hours, and a resident YOUR expert will be an engaging and informative guide to research at CERN. ITINERARY 13:00 – Lunch at CERN restaurant . Please allow CHF15-18 per person, payable in cash. 14:00 – Visit the permanent exhibitions “Microcosm” to explore the mysteries of the universe and “Universe of Particles” to learn more about the Big Bang! 15:30 – Transfer by tram back to Geneva. 19:00 – Enjoy a traditional Swiss fondue to the tune of a live folkloric band that’ll oompah throughout the dinner hour! Includes fondue, sausage, chips, ice-cream and a soft drink.
Your Itinerary: Day 3 DAY 3 Saturday 27 th January 2018 08:30 – Breakfast at accommodation. 10:00 – Visit The Museum of Natural History: frogs, toads and indigenous birds, Lucy and the dinosaurs, the Arctic and the Antarctic. YOUR Don’t miss any of its mysteries! ITINERARY 13:00 – Explore Geneva’s picturesque Old Quarter and buy some lunch. 15:30 – Visit Musée d’art et d’histoire , one of Switzerland’s most important museums, with a collection that boasts over half a million objects. 18:30 – Dinner at the hostel. 19:45 – Transfer by tram to the bowling alley. 20:30 – Ten-Pin Bowling : enjoy a fun and relaxing evening at this bowling alley!
Your Itinerary: Day 4 DAY 4 Sunday 28 th January 2018 08:30 – Breakfast at accommodation. Check out and bags to be left at hotel. YOUR 10:30 – Enjoy a pleasant cruise on Lake Geneva - don’t forget to take ITINERARY pictures! 12:00 – Visit the History of Science Museum and admire its collection of historical scientific apparatus. 13:00 – Pick up some souvenirs along Geneva's waterfront and stroll around the beautiful Park Moynier to see the iconic Jet d'Eau. 14:30 – Collect bags and transfer by train to the airport. 16:45 - Flight back from Geneva to Birmingham International Airport. Flight No: EZY1497 17:40 - Arrive Birmingham International Airport.

What next? • You must wear appropriate footwear at CERN. Flip flops, sandals and heels are not allowed. • Remember to bring a camera for the boat cruise and also for CERN as you are allowed to take pictures! • Take some Swiss Francs for lunches and for any souvenirs. • Each student allowed 1 piece of hand luggage for the flight. • Toiletries must be packed in a transparent plastic bag and not exceed 100ml. • There is no weight limit for the cabin bag but it must be no bigger than 56 X 45 X 25cm. • Bring a towel – remember you only have hand luggage so not a bath sheet! • Bring a Swiss adaptor plug (different to European ones) • Students will need spending money to buy lunch each day (we suggest approx. £15 minimum (of Swiss Francs) per day for lunch. Also, money for dinner on Sunday evening and also for souvenirs and any other drinks/snacks other than those provided. • Medical Care Plans – we will take copies. Remember to bring any medication needed for the trip.
