  1. Environmental Codes of Practice – is it appropriate for AIA to manage an across divisional SMS Program? ? Some divisions are more exposed than others

  2. What legislation do divisional members have to comply with? OPERATOR OR OWNER ENVIRONMENTAL FLIGHT SAFETY IMPACTS CAA & HSE WHO/HOW/WHAT? RULES RMA & DoC 41 Other? AUDITS VOLUNTARY PERFORMANCE CODES

  3. What do Codes of Practice Do For Us? They allow us to write rules for ourselves as opposed to having a regulator do it for us They permit us to show our customers/regulators/the public that we are determined to conduct ourselves in a responsible, professional and compliant way Compliance with the code(s) demonstrates that we are meeting the environmental expectations of the same folk Requirements in the codes typically mean that we have to demonstrate that we have received training to a certain standard. Codes use the terms will, shall should How do we MEASURE our compliance?

  4. Measurement Certification vs Accreditation Certification = the reward for passing an assessment - for example on a code of practice. Accreditation = the reward for demonstrating compliance with that code(s) every time you go to work Demonstrating compliance means operating a SMS Program with documented evidence that shows:  Reporting (QIF)  Corrective Action  Preventative Action  Management Review  Internal Audit  External Independent Audit

  5. AIA – What can it offer? An SMS Program that goes across all things and all divisions......if they want to buy into it NZAAA has run an environmental program for 13 years and it is finally getting some traction but it needs re-branding AIA owns a brand What could an AIA Safety Management System structure look like?

  6. AIRCARE And the RMA AIR Quality Plans Discharges to AIR AIR Pollution Clean AIR Act What does the name AIRCARE mean to you? What would it mean to Regulators and Planners? AIA already owns this brand

  7. AIRCARE Operators AIRCARE AG AIRCARE AIRCARE AIRCARE ROTARY AMBULANCE AIRCARE AIRCARE TRAINING ENGINEERING Divisional Codes of Practice

  8. AIRCARE

  9. The success of this scheme depends very much on AIA selling the brand. Eg Incoming flights Domestic Flights Ferries Information Centres Campervans But also: DoC Regional Councils Airport Companies

  10. What would be in the SMS?  Rules for initial issue of accreditation  Rules for re-issue of accreditation  Audit requirements  Auditor requirements  Detail of what is required in a SMS Program  Equipment requirements  Warranty requirements  Incident Notification requirements (to AIA)  Investigation procedures (by peer group)  AIA responsibilities  Accreditation Agreement form

  11. RISK MANAGEMENT - AIA The essential questions to be answered are: • What is the risk? • Responsibility – whose? • Information – what do you need? • Action – what are you going to do? • Documentation – what is required? • Competency – have you been trained?

  12. What the RMA Says accredited means to hold a qualification approved and notified under section 39A 39A Accreditation The Minister must — (a) approve a qualification or qualifications establishing a person’s accreditation; and (b) notify each qualification in the Gazette. The Proposal includes getting this Govt accreditation for the AIRCARE Environmental Management System

  13. Is it appropriate for AIA to manage an across divisional AIRCARE Safety Management System that could be used to meet both Flight Safety and Environmental compliance?
