The Levy and SME funding • Costs are spread out across the duration of the Apprenticeship and not paid for up front • Levy funds will begin to expire 24 months after they enter your digital account. • As costs are spread across the duration of the Apprenticeship, they will take more time than you think to spend! • If you spend more than your Levy pot the additional spend will be co- funded by government, meaning you will pay just 10% on extra training • SMEs benefit from government co-funding and only have to fund 10% of the Apprenticeship cosy
Understanding the Apprenticeship Levy 0.5% tax payable on annual wage bills over £3 million All Apprenticeships placed in one of 15 Allowance of £15,000 cost bands Employers get extra Collected by HMRC 10% every month every month through from Government PAYE Employers use their online account to pay for Apprenticeships

Key incentives for all employers Levy payers (above £3million payroll) Non-levy payers (below £3million payroll) • • Levy tax expenditure can be offset Government co-invest 90% of against Apprenticeship training for expenditure on Apprenticeship training new and existing employees • Small employers do not have to pay for • Government pay extra 10% on top training Apprentices aged 16-18 or those of existing Levy funds aged 19-24 with additional learning needs All employers • The government will pay an extra £1,000 for each 16-18-year-old enrolled (paid in two stages at three and 12 months)
